今週の #WOTW は先週の「bed」の2つ目です。This time we’re going to be having a look at some phrases. We hope they don’t put you to bed!


- [bed and board] The salary is not that high, but you get bed and board. (lodging and food)

- [bed of nails] You put me on a bed of nails when you tell clients I speak German. You know I don’t! (a problematic or uncomfortable situation)

- [a bed of roses] Believe me, after working at a busy restaurant in central London, a food van in Nakano Central Park is a bed of roses. (a situation or activity that is comfortable or easy)

- [be brought to bed] The Duchess of Cambridge was brought to bed of Prince George early this morning. (archaic, give birth to a child)

- [get out of bed on the wrong side] Hey, it’s not my fault if you got out of bed on the wrong side this morning! Relax! (start the day in a bad mood, which continues all day long)

- [in bed with] 
a: I found my wife in bed with my best mate. (having sexual intercourse with)
b: Shocker.

- [in bed with] Do you think Trump is in bed with Putin? (in undesirably close association with)

- [keep one's bed] He’s feeling poorly. He’s been keeping his bed since after lunch. (stay in bed because of illness)

- [take to one's bed] She’s taken to her bed for a couple of days, but doctors don’t really know what’s wrong. (stay in bed because of illness)

- [one has made one's bed and must lie in (or on) it] We all make terrible mistakes sometimes but, you’ve made your bed and you must lie in it, at least for the time being. (one must accept the consequences of one's actions)

- [put someone to bed] Have you put the boys to bed yet? (prepare someone, typically a child, for rest in bed)

- [put something to bed] After proofreading the book will be put to bed. (make a newspaper or book ready for press, informal)

- [put something to bed] And with that, I think we can put the WOTW to bed until next week! (deal with conclusively)
